Updated side note: There used to be three stars, but I took off one. Why? My derailleur (the same one they sold me) fell off a few weeks back.

However, I managed to keep it in tact and when to my usual bike shop. They managed to put the derailleur back, but SOMETHING was off. I asked them why is my bike now skipping? I asked them to readjust the derailleur... only for them to tell me it's a 7-speed one, not an 8-speed.

So after spending money, I wasn't able to use my bike for very long because the front tire started to deflate upon leaving the shop! They overlooked the hanger, but how did they missed my front tire having a flat? They noticed the tire BEING flat upon giving me the bike, but they didn't bother to check WHY and they had it for TWO days?

Friendly, helpful staff. Quick service. Nice place.

They got the part 24 hours later and managed to fix the bike as soon as possible. They even discounted a few bucks when I told them I came with a little less money (I had close to the amount, just shy of a few dollars). But now, we get to why it's three stars.

Maybe they deserve three stars based on their name which stands for a 3-point type: a size smaller than brilliant. In other words, they fell 2 stars short of brilliant.

So yeah... maybe the mechanic didn't have a sharp eye, but the fact that they missed two details, took more time than originally estimated and thus adding more to the cost than I was originally quoted makes this visit a three star at most. They did the principals, but didn't went the extra mile of making sure my bike was fully ready.

24 hours later, they called and said they overlooked another part that was needed (a derailleur hanger) and it would cost me $30 more. Addition to that, they have to order that part, making it an additional day. I don't really have a choice in the matter, so I okay-ed the additional charge. (What can I do/say?)

I asked them to repair a derailleur which had a trash bag stuck to it (freak accident) along with a few spokes. I was going to go to another shop because I would have gotten a discount, but sadly, it would have taken a long time for them to repair since that part wasn't in stock. The mechanic here promised me to repair within a day after looking at it. Awesome. The price for service and parts was "market rate" (same price I was quoted by other stores, some were a little higher). So, I would expect them to do a standard job and if they threw in some detailing, wonderful.

Rude staff. I had to replace a pedal (they don't even consider bushing it) and the man said I had to change the chain too because the only replacement available in the shop was a larger size than mine.

I said that I changed the pedal before without changing the chain and he said: "look, this is what I have!". Meaning this or nothing. So I left...

I noticed that they have to inflate my front tire upon me collecting my bike. Wait... Why?

Dropped off my bike to get serviced and it was returned the same except I am out $60 and I'll be taking it back to either get serviced or a refund. The management has been very rude during this process. Definitely do not recommend.

Since I left the store 30 minutes before closing time, I wasn't able to ask them why they overlooked the tire.

Had a tire blow out. They repaired it and within a day, the tire blew out again. They blamed a metal piece on the rim that was rubbing against the tube. Why didn't they catch it the first time? Their gear is good, but expensive. Perhaps new mechanics would benefit the business.

I frequent bike shops, so I am using my standard treatment at bike shop to compare. Sadly, they fell REAL short in "attention to detail". Check it out.

Turned out that they overlooked YET another thing: my front tire had a puncture. But I wouldn't notice that until AFTER I left the shop.

So, Excelsior placed a 7 speed derailleur on an 8 speed bike and didn't alarm me about this. Suddenly, another star fell off this review.
