Small hospital known locally by its old name of Kings Highway Hospital. Also known in neighboring area as the hospital you DON'T go to if you can help it. Emergency room is a mess. Frequently dirty and messy. Only a few good doctors on staff. There are only 3 really good hospitals in Bklyn: Methodist, Maimomides and Lutheran. This is obviously not one of them.
Dirty waiting room...my mother was admitted last night after a fall. The staff were attentive enough...several years ago my grandmother was here from a simple fall... she never warlike down out alive... my uncle several years later succumbed to a similar fate... my moms husband brought her here and we were furious...the halls stink...my moms waiting room had garbage strewn ( dirtbtissues, pieces of rubber and cardboard, dirty counters which I cleaned using the hand sanitizer dispenser foam..I scrubbed the counter,doorknob,chair,bed,..the garbage in this room was overflowing and smelly...don't send your loved ones here!!!!!! Why is this place still opened???!!!
Absolute worse hospital I have ever encountered. Zero zero zero all the way... I wasn't there for my grandmothers ER visit but I made it shortly after she was admitted. I am a Cardiac/Critical Care/ER nurse with 22 years experience and I can't understand how this facility remains open. It's filthy, there are fire hazards and trip hazards everywhere, all but one of the nursing staff were rude and disgustingly incompetent. One walker for the entire floor. Her roommate brought in a portable heater to keep them warm but it's a fire hazard and a trip hazard. My 91 year old grandmother fell and had injury because of their neglect. She sat there for four days collecting money from the insurance before they realized that they can't provide the specialty resources she needs and she has to be transferred. I was so worried to leave her at night. The patient she shared a room with was wonderful and called me one night while they were threatening and bullying my grandmother.... I'm hoping that my uncle her son will speak with an attorney about the incompetence and neglect. And to top it off she had to wait hours for nurses to bring her medication, she was dehydrated and it took over 36 hours (when I finally arrive) for the nurse to hang the normal saline bag that was left on a pole from the ER I suppose but never attached to her saline lock (and when she went to start the fluids she was going to use the bag that expired 12 hours prior), 1/2 hour or longer for call bells to be answered, oh and talk about falsifying medical records. The daily hourly charting that hangs off the end of the bed, well some days we didn't see anyone for 12 hours but yet somehow it was signed off hourly. And what about change of shift assessments. NO ONE and I mean NO ONE did a head to toe assessment while my grandmother sat there for four days. If they did they would have caught the skin breakdown on her buttocks. I requested a wound care nurse the day before she left this hell hole but yet no one ever showed up. And the food I can't even explain how it wasn't edible. Who gives a 91 year old with a weight loss of 50 lbs in a few short months a bowl of freaking salt. That's what it was ... even the individually wrapped roll was stale. Oh and there was a patient in the hall that was in a recliner that had her feet propped with and empty trash can and she was trying to get help to go back to bed. I asked the PCA if I could help her since they were unavailable (although they were available) ... She told me no she is fine. Guess what ten minutes later she had a fall with injury. I overheard that she fell the day prior as well and had a laceration to the scalp. I felt helpless and sad for all the people that didn't have family members like myself there to make sure they were safe because they sure as hell weren't being taken care of by staff. 100% complete negligence. I will find out which reporting agencies regulate hospitals in NYC because we live in the USA not a third world country which is what this place reminded me of.....
The experience in Mount Sinai of Brooklyn was horrible!!!! My mother was brought there by ambulance after being in a serious car accident. Her car was totaled so that should at least give you a hint that her screening and treatment should be a lot more thorough...right?..WRONG! By the time I actually arrived at the hospital within the hour of my mother actually arriving, she was being discharged. I quickly demanded to see the attending physician because I could not understand how they could let someone who was pried out of a car wreck to just walk out the door within 20 minutes. The attending physician MARY A. DAWKINS, greets me immediately with an attitude. I told her that I was concerned about them discharging my mother so quickly without running any type of test to make sure she doesn't have any internal injuries. She responded nonchalantly that she did "neurological checks and she is fine". WHAT?! So I told her that her demeanor right now seems like she doesn't care about the health and safety of her patient and what I just said. MARY A. DAWKINS proceeds to tell me that I cannot judge her demeanor in the one second that I met her and that they can not administer a CAT scan because the radiation that would slice through my mom's brain would be a lot more damaging than the trauma that was inflicted on her through the car accident. Who says that?! I told MARY A DAWKINS how I really felt about her treatment and this trash bag of a hospital. She walks away and never asked if my mother FELT well enough to leave. complete and utter DISREGARD for the patient. I snatched those discharge papers up and took my mother to a REAL hospital..where they did ask her questions about how she felt and kept her for a few hours for observation.
This place is horrible. I live locally and have been here a few times, to visit the ER. All times were hour long waits and I was treated as if I didn't matter. This place totally sucks. I now trek into Manhattan to receive proper care.
