Historical site where battles were fought and people were buried. The cemetery design was so popular it inspired the designs of Central Park and Prospect Park. They are some famous people buried here and it continues to be the largest cemetery in Brooklyn, but with a touristy feel to it. They give tours here and even have a trolley ride if you're don't like walking.
Although I went here to locate my ancestors' graves, I would go back again to walk the grounds in a more leisurely fashion. The varied styles of memorials and the nineteenth-century feel make for an interesting afternoon outing.
We visited Greenwood Cemetery and took the trolley tour and found it very interesting and enjoyable. The tour guide, Marge and driver, Anthony were excellent we would highly recommend you bring sneakers and spend the rest of the day walking the grounds it is beautiful and full of history.
Brooklyn's Cultural and Historical Crown Jewel. Surprisingly unknown to many New Yorkers Green-wood Cemetery is unsurpassed in beauty, serenity and historical richness. It is a very rare place of respite from the maddening pace of modern life, many times I have visited and literally have the place to myself with only the sound of rustling leaves and singing birds. Truly a magnificent place to visit and experience.
Beautiful cemetery. I grew up in the neighborhood and it has always been a perfect spot to take a quiet stroll by yourself or just chill and relax somewhere.
