Great experience speaking with Peter about the history of Columbia Street. When I mentioned I was a former resident of Columbia Street, albeit more than 57 years ago, he indicated he had photos of the neighborhoods depicting images of historical significance. This was exactly one of the reasons I went there seeking information that would begin to help me reconstruct a more realistic historical view of my childhood existence. This bookshop will become the epicenter of my research to create a document, my "story", that can be shared with my family and friends.

Cozy, offbeat, with loads of books on NYC, thoughtful shelving, and a nice sunny place to read in the front. Also home to NYC Books Through Bars, an ongoing volunteer project to get books to people in prisons across the U.S.
Really appreciate Freebird giving space to Books Through Bars so volunteers can mail books to incarcerated people around the country. Thanks!
